FAQ and format details
Why convert EPUB to PDF?
Accessibility of a different kind: PDF is what offices print. For actual reading on a phone, stay in EPUB. For a typeset paperback, use a real layout tool. This is the local snapshot path.
How this conversion runs
EPUB → HTML concatenation → pdf-lib US Letter. Chapter h1s become larger type. Images as data URLs are still mostly placeholders in the PDF writer. Long books take time and memory in the tab.
Keep in mind for EPUB → PDF
Reflowable EPUB plus a naive paginator means widows, no running headers, and no page numbers tied to a print edition. Do not cite page numbers from this PDF as if they were a publisher's. DRM EPUBs will not open.
After you have a PDF file
If print quality matters, open the EPUB in a reader and print, or convert EPUB→ODT and export PDF from Writer. If reading quality matters, you already had the right format.
Can I get one PDF per chapter?
Not automatically. Split the EPUB in Sigil and convert each piece, or print from a reader with chapter ranges.
Will the EPUB cover be page one?
Only if that image was in the spine as HTML content we inlined. Cover files listed only in OPF metadata may be skipped.

About EPUB and PDF
Source file
EPUB
The open ebook format: a ZIP of XHTML chapters, CSS, and a package manifest. What Apple Books, Google Play Books, and most non-Kindle readers consume.
EPUB 3 is HTML in a spine. That makes the HTML hub almost native: we concatenate or split XHTML documents and rewrite the OPF package. Kindle’s AZW/MOBI family is a different type and is not in this matrix.

Destination file
A page-description format that paints glyphs and graphics onto fixed pages. Universal for print, archival, and sharing.
PDF (Portable Document Format) describes pages, not a flowing document tree. Incoming PDFs are reconstructed as HTML: designed pages keep positioned text, fonts, images, and vectors; simpler reading documents become flowing articles. Export to PDF paints HTML onto pages via pdf-lib. Pixel-perfect Word/InDesign layout is not the goal.
