Why convert Word to HTML?

Communications teams still receive copy as Word. Publishing means HTML. Doing the unwrap here avoids Word's 'Save as Web Page', which is famous for dumping leftover Office namespaces and VML. Typical jobs: a policy doc onto a intranet, a resume onto a personal site, a manuscript into a static generator.

How this conversion runs

Mammoth maps Word styles onto tags (Heading 1 → h1, and so on). Embedded pictures become data URLs in the hub. Macros are ignored; this tool will not open .docm as a runnable document. Scripts never appear in the output. The download is a full HTML5 file with a title guessed from the first heading when needed.

Keep in mind for Word → HTML

Headers, footers, comments, and Track Changes do not come along. Text boxes and floating graphics follow Mammoth's reading order, which may not match the page you designed in Word. SmartArt, equations, and OLE embeddings flatten or vanish. Complex section breaks are not web concepts.

After you have a HTML file

Open the .html in a browser. If the CMS wants a fragment, copy the body. For Git, continue to Markdown. For an ebook, continue to EPUB. For a pixel PDF of the original Word layout, print from Word — this HTML will not preserve page geometry.

Do you support .doc (Word 97–2003)?

Not on this page. Legacy .doc is an OLE binary in the catalog but not in the live matrix. Re-save as .docx in Word or LibreOffice first.

Will my corporate template's fonts show in HTML?

Font names are not reliably mapped to webfonts. You get structure and emphasis. Apply CSS in the CMS for the house typeface.

Microsoft Word (Office Open XML)

The default Word format since 2007: a ZIP package of XML parts for body text, styles, media, and document settings.

DOCX (Office Open XML WordprocessingML) replaced the binary .doc format. It is the interchange format for business documents: resumes, contracts, manuscripts. Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, Pages, and OnlyOffice all read and write it. Macros live in a sibling .docm type, which this converter does not execute or emit.
